Pax Amazonia
The mission of Global Surgery Umbrella (GSU) is to close the gap in access to safe, timely, appropriate emergency, critical, and peri-and-operative (ECO) care for all people.
GSU is committed to carrying out its mission in the region of South America known as Amazonia.
Within Amazonia, GSU seeks to support the implementation of ECO for the First Nation people living with access to rivers that flow from Ecuador all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.
In April 2024 GSU’s president, Serena Cruz, traveled to Ecuador.into El Oriente, which is the Amazon in Ecuador. The trip was a context mapping endeavor.
This trip was entirely funded by GSU.
From 23 January to 1 February GSU members, Serena Cruz, Sergio Maspons, and Egehan Salepci traveled down the Rio Napo from El Coca to La Frontera of Ecuador and Peru. This trip includes a surgical disease survey and linguistic survey of local terms for surgical diseases.
